Somalia-Bound Ship Catches Fire At Gujarat’s Porbandar

September 22, 2025

A Somalia-bound ship caught fire while it was anchored in Gujarat on Monday.

The cargo ship was anchored at the Subhashnagar Jetty in Porbandar when it caught fire earlier today.

Visuals from the scene showed towering flames and thick black smoke engulfing the vessel while it stood in the middle of the sea.
The vessel, owned by Jamnagar-based HRM & Sons, was loaded with rice and sugar and was en route to Bosaso, Somalia.

As the fire intensified due to the combustible nature of the cargo, three fire brigade vehicles were rushed to the scene. Authorities later towed the ship to the middle of the sea to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby vessels and infrastructure.

No casualties have been reported so far.

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
