The Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea will flood the Afar region and the East African Rift Valley and become a new ocean. The split-off part of Africa will turn into a separate small continent, the researcher believes.
Meanwhile, scientists have assured that Africans will have to wait for the “end of the world” for a long time. According to researcher Sarah Stamps, the fracture rate is currently only a few millimeters per year, so it will take millions of years before new oceans begin to form.
