Members of the international community on Monday asked Somalian politicians to show their leadership in order to end the electoral crisis that affects this East African country.
In a statement released in Mogadishu, the United Nations, the European Union, the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the Arab League called for responsible behavior about the issue on the part of the federal authorities.
The governments of Germany, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Egypt, the United States, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Qatar, the United Kingdom, Sudan, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Uganda and Djibouti also signed the text.
‘We ask that you meet quickly and show leadership in advancing the Baidoa Technical Committee’s proposals of February 16, 2021, to implement the September 17, 2020, electoral model and proceed to hold elections without further delay,’ the demand says.
