Tangier’s appeal calls for redressing the mistake of recognizing a fictitious entity

The call by former African heads of government and foreign ministers to the African Union to expel the Polisario Front constitutes a new pressure step to correct the deviation that occurred in the African Organization’s recognition of a fictitious entity that does not have any of the components of a state, and its presence within this organization would fuel divisions and separatist tendencies.

Tangiers (Morocco) – Former African heads of government and foreign ministers launched an official appeal demanding the expulsion of the separatist Polisario Front from the African Union, on the sidelines of the International Forum “MEDAYS” in Tangiers, northern Morocco.

The call came to hold a round table entitled “The African Union in the context of the Moroccan Sahara issue,” and noted with interest that “two thirds of African countries never recognize the fictitious entity of the Polisario Front, and that half of the continent’s countries have so far opened consulates in Laayoune and Dakhla.”

Sixteen former African prime ministers and foreign ministers stressed in the appeal, a copy of which was received by the “Arabs”, that the accession of Polisario to the Organization of the African Union is a “historical, political and legal deviation, because this fictitious entity does not meet the elements and criteria accepted in international law and the problem of the state, and represents an obstacle to the continent’s political and economic integration.”

In a press statement on the occasion of the launch of the Tangiers Appeal within the international forum “MEDAYS”, which concluded on Saturday, the former Prime Minister of the Central African Republic, Martin Zigele, highlighted that “the existence of the so-called ‘Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic’ entity within the African Union is a political and legal deviation, because this fictitious entity does not It satisfies the principles and standards accepted in international law and constitutes the state.”

Nabil Al-Andalusi, head of the Maghreb Center for Research and Strategic Studies, stressed that the demand of prominent African personalities to expel the Polisario Front from the Organization of the African Union, on the one hand, is an African plea to support the issue of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco, and on the other hand, a stifling of the separatist thesis and its “official supporter” represented in Algerian system.

Andalusi pointed out, in statements to “Al-Arab” that the expansion of the area of African countries supporting the Moroccan proposal is an awakening of conscience, and a redress of a historical mistake in which membership of a fictitious entity that does not have any corner of the state in the Organization of African Unity (currently the African Union) was accepted. The call to correct the historical deviation is nothing but a confirmation of the African orientation that is being reinforced day by day, with nearly half of the African countries opening consulates in Laayoune and Dakhla, and two thirds of African countries do not recognize the fictitious entity.

The Tangiers Appeal calls for the “clear and final expulsion” of the fictitious entity from the African Union, considering that the entity is “artificial imposed on the African Union, against all legitimacy and legality, and it is an artificial entity that is not subject to any of the constituent elements of the state, i.e. the territory, population and actual government.” Which makes it, according to the appeal, “a fictitious entity without sovereignty, without international legal responsibility, and without added value because it hinders the effectiveness of the African Union,” noting that it “threatens African unity and political and economic integration, as well as destabilizing regional stability and security.”

According to Zigeli, the “fictitious republic” should be excluded from the African Union “for clear and specific reasons, that is, it is not a state, and it encourages division, that is, secession within the African Union,” adding that the existence of this phantom entity “impedes the work of the African Union and undermines the prospects for the true unity of the continent.” on acceptable grounds.

“We call at the insistence of the heads of state of the member states of the African Union not to allow this legal deviation to continue within the continental organization, which distorts the work of the African Union and which clearly seems to encourage secession and division,” Zegele said.

Former Guinean Foreign Minister Mamadi Toure, in turn, expressed his support for Tangiers’ call “not only to pay tribute to Morocco’s historic return to the founding family of the African Union, but also to draw attention and highlight the deviation that has occurred.”

“We demand that this historical error be corrected, because it sets a dangerous precedent in the organization, and even the credibility of the continental institution is at stake,” Toure stressed.

For his part, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Comoros, Fahmy Said Ibrahim Al-Masili, confirmed that “the so-called fictitious ‘Sahrawi Republic’ does not have any legal existence within the intended and clear meaning of international law, and expelling this entity from the African Union will only strengthen the unity of Africa,” stressing However, “Africa today, more than ever, needs more unity, working together and jointly, according to a single vision, and getting rid of these unnecessary matters.”

The head of the Maghreb Center for Research and Strategic Studies considered that Morocco’s return to the African Union enabled it to correct the fallacies and allegations of Algerian diplomacy, and Polisario’s exploitation of the policy of the empty seat after Morocco’s withdrawal from the African Organization in the foregoing, noting that Moroccan diplomacy is required today to clarify the reality of the conflict and the fabricated problem regarding the Moroccan Sahara. As for the African countries that are still deceived by the rhetoric of decolonization, to say the least.

The Tangiers Appeal, which was distributed after the round table organized by the Amadeus Institute, called for the need to “correct the historical and legal deviation and the reverse political trend represented by the illegal and illegitimate acceptance, and then the unjustified retention of the fictitious republic within the continental organization and the negative practical impact of that.” “.

In this context, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Benin, Jean-Marie Ihozo, stated that “the fictitious entity called the ‘Sahrawi Republic’ was accepted against all expectations and expectations during a ministerial meeting that brought together those responsible for financial affairs.” It’s time to fix that, assuring that Africa be united and not divided into small entities
